High silicon cast iron anodes were first used in the United States, initially only in the laboratory, by the early 1980s, such anodes began to be widely used in industrial production. This 14.5% silicon-containing cast iron anode was found to be prone to corrosion in seawater, so the metal chromium was added to the anode in seawater in the future. The effect of adding chromium was to reduce the corrosion rate of the original anode. The anode of this design can adapt to almost all media such as sea water, fresh water, salt water, soil and so on.
The principle of high silicon cast iron anode anode is that when the current flows through the anode, the material on the anode surface will oxidize and form a protective film. This protective film can reduce the corrosion rate of the anode itself due to its excellent acid resistance. However, this oxide film is not alkali resistant, so when the anode is used in a dry and high sulfate environment, the anodic film on the surface of the anode is difficult to form and can be easily damaged by surrounding materials.
